Besides being just plain fun, it’s well known that swimming is a great way to stay in shape. It’s suitable for all ages and abilities and is a total body workout. Swimming improves both strength and flexibility with little to no impact on joints. Because of the many health benefits of swimming, it should be a part of everyone’s fitness routine.

Swimming is Good for the Heart

All exercise is good for the heart, but swimming provides high intensity with low impact. That means all the benefits of jogging without the pounding on knees and ankles. Swimming can lower blood pressure, help with cholesterol, and increase your metabolism – all things that are great for heart health!

Swimming Reduces Stress

Swimming helps you relax in many ways. First of all, simply being in the water can help daily stresses float away. Swimming also helps muscles to relax and can ease tension in the body. Stiff necks and tight shoulders will loosen up from just a short time in the water. On top of that, many people find the rhythmic movement of swimming to be a meditative experience.

Swimming is Good for the Lungs

Swimming is a terrific aerobic exercise. It increases lung capacity while training your body to use oxygen more efficiently. Breathe easier by making swimming part of your fitness routine.

Swimming is Good for Pain Relief

Buoyancy in the water means less pressure on bones and joints and swimming improves flexibility and strengthens the muscles that support them. Being in the water also reduces pressure on the spine and can help with lower back pain. For low-impact fitness with a high impact on pain relief, swimming is a great choice.

Perhaps the most common New Year’s Resolution people make every year is, “I want to get in shape,” or “I’d like to lose some weight.” There are many ways you can do this — pay every month for an expensive gym membership, go running every day (which is hard on your knees and back), or you can have fun swimming in your very own custom inground pool. When it comes to holiday fitness resolutions, there’s no better way to make them last than with the health benefits of owning a pool.

Orlando Swimming Pools And Fitness

Swimming and fitness go hand-in-hand. A swimming routine is one of the best ways to exercise and get fit. Moving around in the water exercises nearly every muscle in your body, builds your endurance, and has a wealth of cardiovascular health benefits. Of course you can always swim laps at the public pool, but a custom inground pool lets you take it at your own pace whenever you want and without prying eyes.

Health Benefits of Owning a Pool

The best way to get started on your New Year’s fitness resolution (other than scheduling a FREE on-site consultation) is to start small and build. Set weekly goals—start with just a lap or two, building gradually as you go. By the end of four weeks, you may be surprised at just how far you can swim and just how much better you feel. But no matter how many laps you’re able to swim, your new swimming pool will be the foundation for a healthier future.

Muscular Benefits of Owning a Swimming Pool

Every stroke of every lap you take builds your muscle tone, strength, power, speed, and endurance. The kind of strength training you get from owning a swimming pool can actually translate to other areas of your body and athletics. People who swim can often run faster and longer, lift more, jump higher, and perform better at many other feats.

This is because swimming is resistance training. While in the swimming pool, the water puts resistance on every muscle in your body, forcing you to work and exert every inch of your body while you build power and strength.

Relaxation Benefits of Owning a Pool

Swimming and playing in the water are soothing to your body and mind, as well as helping you train. Swimmers often find that they suffer fewer muscle aches and pains than those who weight train or engage in other kinds of physical activity. Because water has this massaging and soothing effect on your body, it’s also an excellent addition to a lifting or bootcamp-type exercise routine.

Swimming will not only get your heart pumping, it is fun and relaxing as well. After you finish your laps, spend some time floating on your back and just enjoying the cool water. Relaxation is an important part of a health routine. Don’t neglect your mind when focusing on overall fitness.

Time to Schedule a FREE Consultation

If your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight, build muscle tone, and generally get in shape, then a new swimming pool will help you reach and stick to your wellness goals. Just start small and easy and build to your eventual goal and before you know it, you’ll be in great shape and swimming like a pro!

If you’re ready to get started building a great custom inground pool, we’re ready to make it happen. Look at our pool construction gallery for inspiration and then get in touch with us to get started today!

The temperature outside may begin to drop as fall approaches, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to shut down your pool for the year. You can continue to use your pool year ‘round for a number of different activities.

Get Active

Why not extend the life of your pool and go for a swim this fall?  A pool heater is a great option for those chillier October days, and allows you to continue to use your pool in the fall while the temperatures dips.

Not a fan of swimming?  Then those looking to get a bit of exercise can easily do their very own “aqua-size” or aquatic exercises in the privacy of their backyard.  You can use a number of things that you most likely already have on hand to enhance your water workout (such as a pool noodle or a milk carton filled with water), or you can purchase floating dumbbells and other pieces to add resistance and increase your strength.

Get Decorative

Swimming doesn’t have to be the only purpose for your backyard pool. It can also be used to enhance the appearance of your backyard any time throughout the year.  One of the simplest and easiest way to do this is with colored LED lights.  If you plan on having guests over for a backyard barbeque, this will be sure to please.

Another great idea to help make your pool the focal point of your backyard is to float flowers in the water. Wider-based flowers tend to work best (such as orchids and gerbera daisies), though you can also purchase silk flowers (these tend to stay afloat better than real flowers).

Lastly, visit your local pool store and see if they have any portable pool fountains that you can use to spruce up your yard.  If you’re purchasing it close to the end of summer or in the fall, you may be in for some great discounts.

Let’s face it: few people install a swimming pool just so they can go for leisurely swims in the afternoon. Swimming pools are there for entertainment and fun—you put one in because you’re looking forward to hosting great barbecues and having parties where people can cool off and play swimming sports right in the backyard. Since that’s the case, you definitely don’t want to stop at the pool installation—you want to outfit everything just right and add all the bells and whistles. Take some time today to check out our stock of must-have pool equipment for your backyard getaway, just in time for our Pick 2 Giveaway!

Must-Have Pool Equipment

When you’re building your list of must-have pool equipment, it’s likely to differ wildly from the one your neighbor puts together. Everyone’s backyard oasis is unique to them—it sells your sense of style and taste as well as providing an ideal spot for fun in the sun. Here are some great suggestions for the perfect pool accessories and amenities to make sure your guests are wowed by what you’ve got to offer.

LED Waterfall or Bubbler
image02

Waterfalls and bubblers are a big deal in pools right now. They add a natural feel as well as a sense of fun and excitement to your pool. Why not, however, take your waterfall to the next level by adding colored LED lights to the effect? Your bubbler or waterfall can be colored with vibrant or even shifting colors so that when the lights go down, the “oohs” and “ah’s” kick up. If it’s a party atmosphere you’re looking for, you can’t beat the effect of a colored LED bubbler or waterfall.

Ultraviolet Systems and Ozonators

Everyone wants to keep their pool clean, fresh and free from debris and algae. Cut down on the bacterial and algae growth in your pool, and keep the water super-refreshing by installing an ultraviolet system and ozonator. Not only do these systems work to remove unwanted contaminants from the water, but they help to clean it so that people feel even more refreshed and invigorated from the time they spend swimming.

Salt Generators

Have you considered a salt-water pool? These are becoming more popular with each passing year. They eliminate the need for artificially balancing chemicals like chlorine and replace them with a natural experience that isn’t much different than swimming in a chlorine pool. If you’re worried that it’s too much like ocean water, have no fear—the salt levels in pools are far less than in the ocean and essentially create a continuous source of cleaning chemicals.

Salt-water swimming pools have a much lower need for maintenance than chlorinated pools, and they all but clean themselves. They don’t create the nasty by-product chemicals that traditional maintenance does, and eliminate many of the side effects of chlorine pools such as skin and eye irritation.

Pick 2 Giveaway

If you’re wondering whether this year is a good time to get into building and outfitting your pool with the greatest getaway equipment, be assured that it’s the perfect time! We are offering a great deal for all of those looking to install a pool this year. For every new pool sold, you can choose any two of the following free upgrades:

  • Colored LED Waterfall
  • Colored LED Bubbler
  • Ozonator
  • Ultraviolet System

Imagine—not only can you get started with a custom-designed and built pool, but you get to upgrade it with two amazing and fun improvements right out of the gate! There’s little reason not to move forward when you really think about it, so don’t wait—if you’ve been thinking about installing the perfect pool for your summer getaways, check out our pool design services and take advantage of our Pick 2 Giveaway today!

If you are preparing to build a custom pool or remodel an existing area, you should consider adding an outdoor kitchen to your space. Having an outdoor kitchen is an excellent feature that will make being outside more enjoyable and will also add value to your Orlando, Florida property. Of course, many might wonder why having a kitchen area outside is worth the investment when you can just use the one that you have indoors. Customers who include a kitchen in their outdoor space thoroughly enjoy using the amenity. Here are some reasons why.

  1. Convenience

If you have grilled or done any sort of cooking outdoors, you know that there is a lot of walking involved to get things that you need from inside. You have to get your supplies, then bring them all in to be washed. Both your indoor kitchen and your outdoor grilling space end up a complete mess before the night is over. Having an outdoor kitchen means that the trips and clutter are drastically reduced. Many outdoor kitchens include custom features such as a deep sink, refrigerator and multiple cooking surfaces. You will be able to store everything that you need outside and cleanup right there where you are cooking.

  1. Inspiration

Since cooking outside without a complete outdoor kitchen can be a lot of work, most people limit the endeavor to special occasions or a small number of days when the weather is great. An outdoor kitchen inspires homeowners to get out and enjoy the amenities on their property.

  1. Value

Having a custom pool is one thing, but having a fully functional outdoor space that is complete with a kitchen will add great value to your Florida home.

Build Your Custom Outdoor Kitchen

If you would like more information on building a custom outdoor kitchen to complete your space, visit our outdoor living page, watch our video or contact a representative with All Seasons Pools today.

Everyone loves to swim and have a place to cool off during those hot summer days, but many people shy away from owning a pool. Here you will find several misconceptions about owning a pool which simply are not true and should not scare you away from having your dream pool built. With these popular myths about pool ownership debunked, you can look forward to splashing your way through this next summer.

  1. The Construction Process is Long

You might have heard horror stories about pools taking forever to be built, but the truth is, the construction process usually takes only a number of weeks. If you think about everything that goes into building a pool, a few weeks really isn’t that long at all. With planning, digging, and installing all the different parts of the pool, your pool will seem to be built in no time.

  1. Maintenance is Extensive

Yes, pools do require a minimum level of maintenance in order to keep things clean and running properly, but it certainly is not as time consuming as some would lead you to believe. Like any other aspects of homeownership, pool maintenance is important for keeping that space looking like new. Even if you dedicate just a few minutes of your day to care for your pool, this can save you from having to make costly repairs in the long-run.

  1. Pools Are Expensive

One of the biggest misconceptions about owning a pool is that they are expensive. While pools are an investment, there are many payment options you can choose from in order to afford the pool of your dreams. Additionally, if you want to look at it from a different perspective, pools can add to the value of your home. So when it is time for you to move, you can possibly list your home for a higher asking price, increasing the possibility of a higher return on investment (ROI).

  1. Utility Bills Increase

When you get an efficient pool and maintain it properly, your utility bills should not increase significantly. You might see a minor increase, but not any more so than the usual fluctuations that can come with your regular billing. Consult your pool construction company about how you can make your pool run at its optimum efficiency level in order to save as much as possible on your utility bills.

  1. There’s Too Much Repair Work Involved

Repair work is necessary when there has been structural damage to your pool, or if the pool was built poorly in the first place. However, when you properly maintain the pool and have your pool service team make regular visits to ensure all is running well, you don’t have to worry about repair work.

Now, if you want to have your pool updated, that is a different story. These aren’t necessarily repairs, but updating your pool can happen as often as you want it too. You can change out the fixtures and the natural materials surrounding your pool to give it the occasional facelift.

If you live in the St. Augustine, Orlando, and Jacksonville areas, and are concerned with the misconceptions about owning a pool, contact us at All Seasons Pools today. Our experienced professionals will be happy to answer any questions you have about pool ownership.

Are you and the family getting ready to hit the pool or the beach this summer? Before you gather up the family and spend the day in the sun, there are certain sun safety tips you should understand and UV protection rules to follow. This can help keep everyone safe and happy, while preventing sunburn and too much exposure to the sun. UV rays can cause wrinkles, age spots, and even potentially lead to skin cancer. Here are 8 UV protection rules that everyone should know.

#1 Anything Below 30 SPF is Useless

The first UV protection rule is the one that everyone should already know – wear sunscreen when you are going to be spending time outside. This even applies to hours spent walking around outdoors or doing yard work. Look for sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 30 SPF. Anything less is useless in the Florida sun! Apply your sunscreen about 15 minutes before heading outside.

#2 Reapply Every 2 Hours

Next, make sure that everyone applies their sunscreen every 2 hours, especially if you will be swimming.

#3 Take Cover in Peak Hours

Avoid direct exposure to the sun as much as possible during peak UV hours. This is typically considered to fall between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

#4 Wear a Hat

When possible, wear a hat with a wide brim. It is also a good idea to wear light-colored long sleeved shirts when the temperature is cool enough. Cotton clothing can be extremely breathable and help protect against UV rays.

#5 Not All Sunglasses Are Created Equal

Wear sunglasses that are labelled as offering UV protection to shield your eyes against the sun. There are also prescription glasses and contacts that are designed to provide UV protection.

#6 Pay Attention to Your Skin’s Warning Signs

Examine your skin on a regular basis, looking for any changes, such as new sun spots, wrinkles and especially any new growths. Lumps, new moles and other new growths should be inspected by your physician. When you’re in the sun, don’t rely on the redness of your skin to tell you when you’ve had enough exposure. Skin doesn’t show the signs of a burn until the damage has already been done.

#7 Stay Away from Tanning Beds

Avoid using a tanning bed to get a quick tan. Tanning beds have been proven to cause age spots and wrinkles. There is an ongoing debate as to their role in causing or promoting skin cancer. So play it safe and stay away. (Your skin will thank you in ten years.)

#8 Take Extra Precautions with Kids

If you are going to have children with you while you are outside, follow the same rules but use extra precaution as they are more susceptible to the effects of the sun. Apply sunscreen every 2 hours and avoid spending an entire day in direct sunlight. Get some shade occasionally and make sure they have plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated.

These are simple rules to follow and in the long run they can help protect your family from harmful UV rays. The next time you and your family decide to enjoy a day in the pool or at the beach, make sure you go over these basic UV protection tips. A major part of owning a pool is ensuring that your pool water is safe and clean. In order to accomplish this, you need to pay attention to your pool water chemistry on a regular basis. This is not a complicated task, as long as you follow the basic instructions provided by your pool contractor and these four easy steps. If you want to keep your water pool clear, clean and healthy, then take a moment to review these simple steps.

Step 1: Determine Water Hardness

Your first step is to determine the level of water hardness of your pool water. Hard water can make it difficult for the chemical compounds that you use to do their job. Minerals, calcium and dirt particles found in the water that you use to fill your pool, will directly affect your water hardness. It’s important to check your water hardness; the level you are trying to achieve should be between 200 and 400 part per million. If your pool water is too hard, consider draining part of your pool water and refilling it before taking another reading. On the rare chance that your water is too soft, you may need to add calcium chloride.

Step 2: Use Chlorine Properly

The next step in keeping your pool water healthy is to ensure you are using chlorine properly. The company responsible for installing your pool should have offered you instructions as to what type of chlorine to use. Chlorine combats algae growth and bacteria. When your pool water has too much chlorine, the pool water could become uncomfortable or even harmful to swim in. When a pool does not contain enough chlorine, your pool water could end up with troublesome algae growth. Typically, the range of chlorine that should be added to your pool water should fall between 1 and 10 part per million.

Step 3: Check the pH Level

Most people are aware that the pH level of pool water needs to be checked frequently. Using a pH testing kit you can determine the level of acidity of your pool water. The acceptable ranges for your pH level are between 7.2 and 7.8.

Step 4: Use Cyanuric Acid

Cyanuric acid is used as a conditioner. This is used to help maintain your chlorine levels inside your pool water and prevents the chlorine from being affected by direct exposure to sunlight. As with other chemicals, there is a recommended safe level for the use of cyanuric acid. The goal is to reach a level between 30 to 80 parts per million.

These four steps work together to ensure optimum water safety and clarity. The chlorine stops the growth of algae, hard water can make it difficult for your chemicals to do their job, pH level inform you of the acidity of your pool water, and cyanuric acid can help keep your chlorine at suitable levels.

As you can see, it is not too difficult to maintain proper pool water chemistry, but the key is consistency. Make sure you are using the proper chemicals and remember to test water regularly.
