10 of Our Favorite Pool Designs from 2014

Pools come in a wide variety of styles and designs. Every year, pool designers create new designs that stun and amaze. If you are thinking about having a pool installed in your backyard, whether you want an above ground pool or an inground pool, use this selection of pool designs to help you choose a style for your new pool. Now that the year is over, take a look back at our favorite pool designs of 2014.

10 – Glass Tile Pool

Glass tiles became a popular choice for pool construction in 2014. Offering more durability and design options than ceramic tile, glass tiles should continue to be a common option. Despite being slightly more expensive than ceramic tile, glass tiles have additional strength and are less prone to breaking or cracking.

9 – Attached Hot Tubs

Having a pool is great, but sometimes you want to relax your muscles in hot water. Why not have the best of both worlds and have an attached hot tub built when designing your backyard pool?

8 – Custom Landscaping

Creating a more natural look, landscaping was an important part of pool construction this past year. Coming up with unique ways to incorporate landscaping into the overall aesthetic of the pool design allows homeowners to make their backyard a private escape.

7 – Natural Materials

In going with the natural look, the use of natural building materials has risen. This past year we saw pools built with rocks along the edging and the incorporation of other natural features.

6 – Geometric Shapes

Oval and custom shaped pools have always been popular, which is why geometric shapes seem original. From hexagonal to triangular, pools with a geometric design make it easier to plan the overall layout of your pool in your backyard.

5 – Water Features

Fountains and other water features can add even more of a splash to your backyard. Water features are often fairly easy to install and can provide a function for your pool when it is not in use.

4 – Infinity Pools

Infinity pools are pools that are constructed with a vanishing edge. This means they are built inground with an edge that is level to the surface. They are typically built with a rectangular or geometric shape.

3 – Exercise Pools

Small exercise pools are a good choice for homeowners with limited space. Built with a wave generator to create resistance, exercise pools are economical and offer a fun way to get in shape.

2 – Salt Water Pools

Salt water pools offer a new way to maintain healthy water in your pool. The salt eventually converts to chlorine. Compared to adding chlorine on a regular basis to your pool, adding salt to a salt water pool can save time and money.

1 – Custom Decking

Custom decking was also a popular pool design trend in 2014. More homeowners are spending just as much time planning their decking as they do their pool. Having custom decking offers even more opportunities for creating a unique and original pool area.
